The DSLR Filmmakers Workflow | B&H Photo Video Pro Audio

I just read a nice article by David Flores with a solid workflow for transcoding your DSLR footage for editing on the B&H site. He gives setups for both Apple Compressor and MPEG Streamclip.

Here’s what I suggest.

Why not take some time to test editing footage right from the camera versus editing transcoded footage. Transcode a few clips and perform the same edit with footage right from the camera. Make sure you add a few transitions, superimpose some text and include any other editorial elements you normally use with both timelines.

Render the timeline to your normal file(s). Track the time required for building the timeline and rendering the edit. Look at both rendered files side by side.

It’s likely you’ll see significant differences at every step of the process. But that’s for you to decide. Let me know how it goes for you. Here’s what David has to say:

This article was written to help anyone thats been there. I feel your pain. It took me a while to find the workflow that fit my editing style. Today Im sharing my findings. There are many ways to arrive at your destination. This article is a great place to get started.
